I really enjoy every photo shoot –and each one is different. I have a lot of fun with my clients and I think they are surprised to find how relaxed and fun their session can be. Even the kids are sad when it’s over! We will begin with a few “relaxed posed” shots. Next the fun begins-I will gently direct with a little active posing so I can capture those spontaneous expressions and natural interactions. As long as everyone is having fun, I will keep shooting. Many times I just let the picture “happen.” Candid pictures are my favorite. Don’t worry if the kids aren’t cooperating, we’ll reschedule-if they aren’t having fun, no one is! During a family photo shoot when young children are involved it sometimes helps to bring along a family member or a friend-someone they feel comfortable with.

Location

I will leave this decision up to you but I also have many suggestions. It can be anywhere you choose, your home, a waterfall, a favorite park or lake. With babies, some are more comfortable at home and some love new places. If we schedule an outdoor session we will talk about a rain date or an indoor back-up plan.

Best time to schedule a session

For outdoor portraits, my favorite time to shoot is in the evening-up to an hour before sunset. Midday sun is very harsh and produces shadows.
For indoor portraits early morning to mid afternoon is best. I try to use as much natural light from windows as I can.

For weddings I improvise. I find some shade for outdoor shots or side lighting for indoor shots. Sometimes a flash is needed.

When there are small children involved it is best to choose a time when they will be rested and fed.

Length of session

For private sessions allow up to an hour. The time frame can vary, depending on how many people are involved and where the photo shoot takes place. Weddings vary anywhere from 2-8 hours.

Clothing tips

Classic look: Simple clothing in solid, neutral colors photograph best.
Casual look: Denim or khakis with solid shirts looks great. Bright colors also look great in color shots.

For families, choose colors with similar tones so that no one person stands out. As for shoes-barefoot is always fun! A hat is also a great touch. Feel free to bring several different outfits. You may also bring any props you like-a stuffed animal, tea set, special chair or even a dog.

Viewing your pictures

Within 1-2 weeks you will be able to view an on-line slide show of your session.
